Thanks to some mighty prayin', and some help from a neighbor, Brandy got out his crop today before the majority of the snow hit. Woot!
Well...sorta.
I'm celebrating. Sorta. Not quite. But I am. They're done with their own, and the custom work they committed to previously. But they've been asked to do more, and they want to help others. So...not quite.
My man is exhausted. Still pluggin along, many days from 6 am till midnight or later. Still with a good attitude (most of the time anyway, like all of us). He amazes me.
Today, when they went out to finish 2 hours of fieldwork while the snow was coming down, and due to really hit (we're in a blizzard warning and I'd say it's here), they discovered the combine corn head froze up. Full of corn stalks and ice.
So they took it off the combine, put it on the trailer, and hauled it to the shop, where Brandy blasted it with high pressure hot water. He got soaked and covered in guck (I know this cuz I'm washing guck right now).
He had a different shirt and sweatshirt along, but not dry pants, socks or boots. With the wind chill it felt like zero degrees today. And under his coveralls and down to his toes, he was damp and wet. Yet he carried on. They got the job done! He came home, got the 4-wheeler out and scooped the driveway (yes, we have a 4-wheeler in town to scoop our driveway. Our short driveway. He's still a country boy!), came in and had supper with his family, managed a few smiles and laughs with his funny kiddos--all before his hot shower. He showered, helped tuck the kids in (they miss that), tried to watch tv but his eyes hurt from the debris, and went to bed.
That's my man.
When he's not "all here" for us even when he is here (which is seldom these days), I need to remember he's working his tail off. And it will come to an end.
But for a Mom of 7...parenting alone...who's never seen a harvest last later than early November (usually late October)...sometimes I forget.
But I love my man.
And so he's done with harvest...sorta.
I DID however put my foot down and say we ARE getting our Christmas tree within the next 3 days, harvest or no harvest. It's time.
We'll see. *smile*
Enjoy the blizzard. I don't think he'll be back in the combine for at least a few days!
