Dreary Summer Fun

One of the things that have been going on around here this summer is very un-summer like weather. Cool temps and rain rain rain. If you haven't heard, the Missouri River is causing havoc to many people.  It's so sad!  Summer prayed the other night that all the water would go away from people's houses...by tomorrow or the next day.  So sweet.  Ah, the refreshing faith of a child.

It has also been quite depressing not to see the sun.  I'm one of those people whose attitude is affected by sunshine, or lack of it.  Finally we've had a couple days of sun.  What a blessing!

So this picture shows you the June weather, and also the soccer girls.  Svanna and Sierra have been to soccer camp every day this past week.  It was three hours a day, so they were quite tired!  And of course, a little rain doesn't stop soccer camp.  They would have only gone inside if there was lightening.

They weren't this sopping wet after practice, but since they were already quite wet, they decided they would have a little fun in the rain!

LOVE this picture of my almost 5th grade girls!  That's pure joy.

Good Weekend...little glitch

We had a busy but fun weekend!

Saturday morning I took Shianne on a little clothes shopping.  Then a noon soccer game, a 2 pm soccer game, and a wedding at 4 pm.  Here are some pics!

Sierra's devoted fans...
She goes after the ball with a vengeance.  She plays hard.  Way to go, Sierra!

Svanna right in the thick of things, always keeping an eye on the ball...

Congratulations Yaby and Dustin!!
Aren't they a beautiful couple?
How cool is it that the first wedding ceremony Svanna, Gabe and Summer go to, the bride is an Ethiopian?
We think she's pretty special! (oh, and the groom's not bad either!)  *smile*
Yaby and her Dad.  Doesn't it just bring tears to your eyes?  We got the privilege of meeting her parents in Addis Ababa.   Until last week Yaby hadn't seen them in over 4 years, since she's been to America.
And oh, her Mom...

We had fun on the dance floor!!  Brandy even took his turn.  And a girl's just gotta dance with her sons (and her girls too!).

But apparently I don't "have it" anymore.  Sierra pulled me off the floor during the Macarena.  Shoot, you mean I've entered that stage in parenthood where I embarrass my kids?!?  WHEN did that start?

It was a great night.  Lots of fun.  And we are so happy for Dustin and Yaby!  We wish them the best and pray they have many wonderful years together.

Then Sunday we had two wonderful church services. And in between we got together with some good friends at their home for lunch.  Shianne and her friend, Keera, had some fun horsing around...

Isn't that a fun picture??

The glitch to the weekend??  Well, I guess there was two.  One mostly.  Brandy didn't feel well.  He said from the get go that the antibiotic we were all put on for strep (even those of us with no symptoms) was making him sick.  I'm embarrassed to say I thought he was nuts.  And actually just coming down with something.  Well by yesterday it was apparent that he was probably right (sorry, hon!), cuz he was miserable--taking a 4 hour nap instead of having lunch with our friends.  And now today, after missing two doses he feels a whole lot better, not 100%, but getting there.  The doc said to just stop taking it and to come in if he develops strep symptoms (praying not!).

The other glitch?  Summer (the season) has apparently hit with high winds (as usual) and temps around 90 F.  Wouldn't normally bother me except our AC went out!!  And I'm a wimp!!  Ugh.  I kept telling myself how spoiled I am, how most of the Earth's population doesn't have luxuries like AC.  But I was still a wimp and did my share of whining.

They came and fixed it today.  Apparently when someone was trimming down the vine around the AC unit, in an innocent attempt to keep the vines from overtaking the AC unit, she cut a wire to the AC unit (couldn't have been me!!).
Ah, well, at least it's not in the 80s in the house anymore.  Bliss!
