Happy Birthday, Shianne

Shianne and 8 of her friends (one had to go home a little early) are in our basement right now helping us her celebrate her 14th birthday!!

As I sit here and wonder how long I should stay up and make sure they're "behaving," I remember I haven't posted a "Happy Birthday" to her on the blog yet!

Her birthday was Wednesday.  Happy Happy Birthday to my beautiful daughter. The girl that started me off with the title of "Mom," and continues to teach me new things.

It is a little odd to have a 14 year old now.  But no more so than having you go to preschool or Kindergarten.  Or grade school.  Or become a teenager.

Life moves on.  And even though I miss the ages you used to be, I'm continually excited with who you are now and who you are becoming.  Every new age, every new step, is a wonderful adventure.  I love you every minute of every day.

Funnn Times!

We've had some fun times the past couple of weekends!

Last weekend was Sierra and Svanna's last volleyball game.  What a great season!  They didn't make it to state, but they worked hard, improved a lot, and had fun.  So much fun for me to watch!  It's amazing really.  I've never been one to really enjoy sports...till my kids started playing.  THAT's a whole new ball game! (excuse the pun!). So proud of them!

That same weekend Shianne was in the Jr High play, Charlette's Web.  They did such a great job!  She was a fairgoer, and did great on her lines!

With her friend, the baby spider!

And then....

....

....

...yippee!

Brandy and I went away last weekend, just the two of us!  It was a much needed get away, especially with Spring (planting and spraying and trucking = one busy hubby) knocking at our door!

The weather here lately has been warm.  But so beautiful!  Tonight we got a shot of rain, and hopefully we'll get a few more shots because it's been very dry.  But oh the spring weather has been so enjoyable!  Crazy though.  Sunday it's supposed to be 89 degrees!  It is April Fools Day.  Maybe it will snow? hee hee

So Saturday we took Brandy's new-to-us boat on the lake!  I say "Brandy's", cuz really, it is his baby!  The lake was so smooth, and there was hardly anyone on it (most of the docks weren't even in yet).  The weather was as perfect as can be this side of Heaven.  What joy!

Her "maiden" voyage!  Is that an excited smile or what?

Ahhhh....

We are blessed, indeed!

Happy Birthday, Shianne!

Happy 13th Birthday, Shianne Beth!

Here's a picture of Baby Shi and Daddy before their first official outing, only a few days old!

And one year ago...

The above picture is the one she picked for her profile picture.  Cuz the BEST part of turning 13?  FACEBOOK!

We love you, Shianne! We love your heart and your smile.  We're so proud of you, Happy Birthday!

Doesn't Surprise Me!

.
Well...it's official.  I've officially given up the search for my camera case (containing my SLR camera and our camcorder) cuz I don't know where else to look!  We're 95% sure it isn't in our house.  Doesn't mean it won't show up someday.  There still are very few logical explanations for where it could have gone.  One logical explanation is that as I was getting something out of the van on Christmas night, I could have put it on the back bumper.  It could have made it a few miles down the road before it fell off.  That could have happened.

However, not only do I have no recollection of doing so, there would have been no reason for me to do so.  I did go in the back of the van to get some cards out, but shouldn't have had to move the camera.  Also, Brandy doesn't think it's possible, given the size of the camera bag vs. the size of the bumper.  And we know it's not on the in-laws driveway.

So...that said...I'm going to buy a new (or used) SLR camera.  Once you have one, it's hard to go back to a point-and-shoot (play some violins, I know you feel sorry for me).  The camcorder will probably wait for a while, as we don't use that nearly as much.  And Shianne has a little one should the need arise.

In the meantime, I'm sharing a picture sent to me by Shianne's teacher.  It's of her dissecting a squid.  Yes, a SQUID.  She had no problem with that.  That doesn't surprise me a bit!  Her friend and lab partner didn't want to touch it so let her have all the fun.  Two boys puked.

By the way...in high school when we dissected baby pigs, I was the only one the teacher thought would faint! She doesn't get that from me. *smile*

Hallelujah!

Sunday Shianne went in front of our church family to profess her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ!

Woot!  Woot!  What an awesome day.

She was baptized as an infant, and now reaffirmed her baptism.  A couple months ago, she talked with the elders of our church to give her testimony and tell them what she believed, which led to this day, her Profession of Faith.

Here we are praying for her, with the elders laying hands on her...
Shianne and I sang "Blue Skies" originally sung by Point of Grace {see below}.  It's one of Shianne's favorites.
Afterward we had a brunch at our house.  What fun!  I'm pretty sure at one point we had 60+ people here!  It was great.  Not everyone could be here, but we knew they were here in spirit.  But so many family and friends came.  What a great day!

Words cannot express how proud of you we are, Shianne!  You gave your life to Jesus at seven years old, and now at twelve you proclaimed that to many.  You have a great faith in your Abba Father, never let that go.  He will always be there for you.  We love you!

Oh My

.
Remember me saying that Shianne knew how to take a photo?

Wow. This one took my breath away.

By the way...she said the heart was just there.  She found it like that.  How often don't I miss those "I Love U's" from above cuz I'm too busy to notice?

Cool.

Mother-Daughter Weekend

Life must be crazier than normal for me to *finally* be posting these pictures!

Shianne and I went on a weekend getaway at a Christian camp a few weeks ago.  A Mother-Daughter Equine Adventure!

Shianne loves everything "equine," and it sounded fun to me as well.  Besides, she's getting to that age where...well...the normal age of pulling away just a bit.  So it was great to have time just the two of us and reconnect.

We had times of Bible study, times to hang out with new friends, good food, kick back time, and time to be together.  Oh, and time spending time with horses!

Shianne really has an "eye" for photography...
It was so gorgeous, and the weather was beautiful.  Sweatshirt and jeans weather, sometimes adding a jacket.  Cool and crisp, but not too cold.  And lots of sunshine.

The only drawback?  I had my phone tucked safely in the backpocket of my jeans when we hit the trail...and it wasn't there when we got back (a little bouncy, perhaps?).  Our friends there were wonderful and helped me look for it, but it was like looking for a needle in a haystack...especially since the battery was dead.  So the trip turned out to be a little more expensive than anticipated.  Big bmmer, yes, but didn't ruin the weekend.

Part of the cell phone search party...
Praise God for a wonderful getaway with my girl!

Happy Birthday, Shi

.
Oh my darling girl, how can you be 12 today?

How beautiful you were...how beautiful you are...

One week old.  Look at all that dark hair!
4 years old...
This Summer...

Shianne Beth, your Dad and I are so proud of you!  You're growing into a beautiful young lady, inside and out.  Your love for Jesus shines on your face...and that is the most beautiful thing of all.

We love your passions, your excitement, how you're not afraid to be yourself, and how you've taken more responsibility.

Most of all...we love you for who you are...when you're just you.

It's a joy to watch you grow, and I thank God for the privilege.

Happy Birthday, Honey.  We love you!

Shianne's Fun Week

.
Shianne was gone to camp this past week.  Her Momma missed her very much!  But she {of course} had an amazing time.  She went to Bible Horse Camp for the second year in a row, and thoroughly loved it.

This year was a tad bit different than other years she's gone to camp.  She didn't have a friend to go with.  She's always made friends easily.  She was the 4 year old who would walk up to any other child in the park with a "what's your name?"  But still, it was different.  Usually, if I bring her to camp, the girls are giggling and laughing and ready to have a grand time.  This year she was quieter--assuring me that she would have a great time--but quieter.

So I prayed hard for her all week.

When I went to the closing program, I knew from simply seeing her from across the room that she did indeed have a wonderful time.  I also noticed how grown up she looked.  Funny how a week apart can do that {sniff sniff}.

In going to her cabin I took a picture of the "3 Musketeers" as they called themselves.

An old friend from camp last year, and a new friend.  Fabulous!

It's a good thing I prayed for my darling daughter, though.  Cuz even with all the precautions they take, she fell of a horse.  Just in time to look up and see the horse jumping over her!  Thankfully, she didn't get injured.  She scuffed up her chin and hurt the same knee that she hurt in softball {I hope that's not a recurring problem for her}.

Some parents would freak out.  Not I.  Since she didn't get hurt, I'm actually kinda glad it happened.  Lots of life lessons.  Healthy respect for horses.  Oh, and she got right back on that horse.  Way to go, Shi!!

Tired Shianne came home on Friday, and since the boys were off on another adventure, the girls went shopping for some much needed things.  {sigh}  Ya'll know I don't like to shop, right?  But we found some good stuff and enjoyed supper together.  Chips and salsa, yum.

I told a friend from church that I didn't like to shop cuz I get overstimulated and I have a crowd phobia.  She totally laughed at me!!  She said, and you have seven kids?!?  Ok, it is kinda funny, huh. *smile*

Saturday, Shianne got to show lambs at the local county fair.  No, we don't have lambs at our house.  Dogs, kids, and puppies...but no livestock.  Friends from church asked if she'd like to help show their lambs and I think she about jumped out of her skin with excitement.  She's been asking and asking to join 4-H, and I've been hesitating (she is the oldest, you know, and there are 6 more to follow).  So this was her chance.

The girl looked like a natural in the ring with only a few practices (of course, our friends worked with the lambs for months beforehand).  She was totally in her element.

She has always loved animals.  Since she was little she's wanted to be a vet.  Then she took a couple years off from that cuz she found out you have to go to college for 8 years!  But now the last year she's been saying that again.  She'd be an awesome vet, that's for sure.  Whatever God has in store for her future, I'm sure she'll jump in with both feet!

Thanks so much to the Luesinks and the Shephards for asking her to join them with their lambs!!!  She would LOVE to do it next year as well.

The other kids enjoyed watching and seeing the lambs.  This was the first day of the fair, so there wasn't a lot else to see {oh, but Grandma got them ice cream, what more could they ask for?}.

This "black sheep" kicked Svanna in the head when she was on her haunches.  OUCH!  She took it quite well, tho.
Welcome home, Shi!  We missed you, we love you, and we're proud of you!
