This was a HUGE step for Svanna. Sharing her life in Ethiopia with her friends and classmates. This was her idea. Way to go, Svanna!! We're very proud of you!!!
We bought the injera (the sour bread/pancake like food) in a city about 60 miles away. Brandy's Dad actually picked it up at a restaurant for us. The wat (the brown stuff on the injera, made of beef and spices) was made by our friend Yaby's mom.
If you're not familiar with injera, it's not only a staple in Ethiopia (eaten with pretty much every meal), but it's also a utensil.
A piece is torn off, and with your fingers around the injera you pick up other food.
I cut up some of the hard boiled eggs so it would be easier for the kids to try some with injera and wat. The milk? Oh, that's to cut the burning in your mouth from the spices. Water just doesn't cut it! {Although I will admit, I'm a weakling when it comes to spicy food}
I was sure very few of the kids would like it. It took me a while to get used to it (now I like it).
Actually? Most kids came back for more!
Great smile...great day.
