Different Worlds United

My darling Svanna has started opening up to me about life before us.  Before America.

Nothing earth shattering.  Mostly everyday stuff.  But oh-so-precious to this Momma's ears.  So wonderful it brings tears to my eyes and warmth to my heart.

Tonight, lying in bed, while her sister, Sierra, was in the shower, she opens up again.  About people in her neighborhood.  While she was talking Sierra hops into her own bed.

Svanna is talking about AIDS.  Or AID-es, as she sometimes refers to it.  About this person, and that person, and how that baby died from AIDS.

"What's AIDS?"  Sierra says.

Ah, two different worlds.  Collided and united.  Two different backgrounds.  Sometimes stark.  Most times going totally unnoticed.

Two girls who've become totally sisters in every meaning of the word.  Some days thoroughly enjoying each others company.  Laughing.  Playing.  Other days not being able to stand being near each other.  Arguing.  Bickering.  Tattleing.

But always...loving each other.  They may at times put each other down, but they'd defend each other to another till they ran out of breath.

Different worlds.  Same hearts.  Sisters.

As a woman who holds her sisters (both biological and Spirit) near to her heart, this made me smile & tear up...beautiful how God knits hearts together.
